New York, NY - The men's volleyball team earned their fourth straight win, and their first non-conference victory, after blanking Drew 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-16). Hunter advances their record to 4-5 overall on the season.
Hunter dominated the stat sheet, tallying more kills, aces, blocks, assists and digs while committing less errors. As a team, they compiled 42 kills on 95 swings with just 18 errors for a .253 hitting percentage.
Ted Kim exploded for a career-high 15 kills while
Sherrod Cole and
Gabe Mendoza combined for 15 kills in the win.
Chris Scandole was the team's high dig getter with 10 while
Cooper Moran registered 34 assists.
A rocky start saw the Hawks down 10-4 in the early stages of the first, but they used a 6-1 run to pull within one. I the latter stage, Mendoza registered a kill and then Moran added back-to-back kills to make it a 19-19 affair. The squad used a 6-1 run to close out the first, 25-21.
Despite leading from the get-go in the second, Drew did not go away easily. The scrappy visitors managed to string together a 5-1 run to go up 19-18. However, six Ranger errors proved costly and helped Hunter to hit the 25 point mark and go up 2-0.
In the third, Hunter took the early lead and never looked back. They built a comfortable cushion that reached as high as nine points and cruised to the end with Medoza putting the exclamation point on the victory with the final kill of the match.
Up next, Hunter will travel downtown to face CUNYAC rivals Baruch College on Saturday, March 12. First serve is scheduled for a noon start.
