Volleyball Blocked By Bearcats, Fall 3-1

New York, N.Y. - Despite a tightly contested affair, the Hunter College men's volleyball team was defeated by Baruch College on Saturday, falling in a 3-1 decision.

With the win, the Bearcats (6-9, 4-0 CUNYAC) take over the top spot in the CUNYAC and remain undefeated in league play, while the Hawks (4-6, 3-1 CUNYAC) drop their first conference game.

After Baruch won the opener, 25-22, Hunter came back to steal a 25-17 victory in the second set. As a team, the Hawks collected 14 kills and posted their best hitting percentage of the afternoon at .393 in that win. Unfortunately the visiting team was plagued with errors in the next two frames, resulting in 20-25 and 23-25 losses.

The Hawks were outblocked by the Bearcats, as the home team finished with a 16-4 advantage, led by Akil Vaughn who recorded six.

Three different Hunter players finished with double-digit kills as Ted Kim led the way with 14. Gabe Mendoza and Sherrod Cole were responsible for 12 and 11 kills, respectively and combined for nine digs. Defensively, Chris Scandole notched a season-best 24 digs as Cooper Moran paced the offense with 42 assists.

Men's volleyball is back in action on Tuesday, Mar. 15 when they host Brooklyn College at 6:00 p.m. inside the Hunter Sportsplex.
