Men's Volleyball Wins Sixth Straight, Defeats Baruch, 3-1

The Hawks avenge a loss to Baruch from earlier this season

New York, NY - The men's volleyball team added another victory earlier this evening after defeating their downtown CUNYAC rivals, Baruch College, by a score of 3-1 (23-25, 25-19, 25-23, 25-23). The win pushes their overall record out to 10-6 while a league mark of 9-1.

As a team, the Hawks had better numbers in kills, aces, assists and digs as well as a higher hitting percentage. Individually, Ted Kim was the game-high earner in kills with 14 while Niro Osborne and Sherrod Cole added 11 and nine respectively. Cooper Moran filled the stat sheet this evening with a game high 42 assists to go along with his nine digs and three kills. Nick Yao registered 10 digs on the defensive end while David Lou added nine of his own.

There were just four lead changes in the first set with Hunter grabbing the first point and staying on top through the first half of the set. However, three straight Bearcat points proved to be the difference maker as the hosts took a 17-15 lead and never looked back. Hunter eventually pulled within one at 24-23, but Baruch's Defeng Han ended the first on a kill.

The second set was a much different story. Scandole sparked an early 5-0 run which set the Hawks off on a positive note. The lead ballooned into an eight point upper-hand at the 18-10 mark and Baruch was never a threat the rest of the way. Hunter evened the playing field at 1-1 with a 25-19 set victory.

Ten ties highlighted the third set as both teams stayed within striking distance the entire way. Baruch lead late at 22-20 but a host service error followed by three straight Hunter kills from Lou, Moran and Cole propelled the Purple and Gold through to the end. Cole and Scandole put the exclamation point on with back-to-back kills and went up 2-1.

It was a similar story in the fourth and final set. A slight two-point edge late in the set was all that the Hawks needed. With a 22-20 edge, the Purple and Gold traded points with their rivals down the stretch until Osbourne hammered home the final kill for the win.

The Hawks return to action on Thursday, March 31 when they travel to the Bulldogs of Brooklyn College for a 6pm league game.
