Bronx, NY - The men's volleyball team won their third straight after blanking Lehman College in straight sets (25-4, 25-20, 25-14) earlier this evening. The win pushes the Hawks' record out to 3-5 overall and 3-0 in CUNYAC action.
The Purple and Gold dominated the stat sheet, hammering home 37 kills on 82 attempts with just 16 errors for a .256 hitting percentage while their counterparts earned just nine kills and posted a -.192 hitting percentage. Hunter also had seven blocks, six aces, and identical 33 assists and digs; all greater than their opponents.
Sherrod Cole posted a game high 10 kills while
Ted Kim was close behind with nine.
Gabe Mendoza and
Chris Scandole each tallied eight digs apiece while
Cooper Moran registered a game high 31 assists.
The first set was lopsided in favor of Hunter as they scored 18 unanswered points before closing with four straight kills for the 25-4 set victory. The Hawks were down for more than half of the second, but rebounded and turned an 18-16 deficit into a 25-20 win to go up two sets to none.
A 10-1 mid-set run ultimately proved to be the difference maker in the third. Holding a comfortable 21-10 lead, the Hawks cruised to the end and closed the match with a kill from Mendoza.
The squad returns to action on Thursday, March 10 when they host Drew University at the Sportsplex at 6pm.
