Flushing, NY - The men's tennis team hosted the Rams of SUNY Farmingdale earlier this afternoon in a non-conference match. The visitors proved too much to handle as the Hawks were blanked, 9-0. The loss moved their record to 4-4 overall with one more match left in the regular season.
The Purple and Gold had a tough draw this afternoon against a strong Farmingdale squad. Kenneth Del Cit and
John Devakanmalai came closest to securing a win at #3 doubles but fell 8-6.
Nicholas Caicedo and
Anil Singh dropped #2 doubles by a score of 8-4 while
Jairo Baquero Molina and
Justin Pazmino lost 8-1.
In an exciting #3 singles matchup, Caicedo took his competitor, Ethan Cintron to three sets. He dropped the first, 6-2 but rallied to win 7-5 in the second before falling 10-7 in the third. Baquero Molina and Pazmino each lost by scores of 6-0, 6-1 at #1 and #2 while
Raymond Len and Single suffered the same fate by scores of 6-2, 6-3 at #4 and #5 singles.
Winston Riggs was overpowered by Mario Contrearas, 6-2, 6-1.
Up next, the Hawks will host the United States Merchant Marine Academy in their final match of the regular season. It will be on Saturday, April 23 at the USTA National Tennis Center. First serve is slated for a 1:30pm start.
