Flushing, NY - The men's tennis team suffered a 7-2 loss to the United States Merchant Marine Academy earlier this afternoon as their regular season comes to a close. The Hawks boast a 4-5 overall record and a 1-2 mark in conference play heading into the post season.
The duo of
Christopher Popovic and
Jairo Baquero Molina were the only doubles team to be able to snag a win. The top flight doubles pair beat their USMMA opponents by a score of 8-5 while
Nicholas Caicedo and
Anil Singh in #3 doubles, fell by the reverse score, 5-8. At #2 doubles,
Justin Pazmino and
Kenneth Del Cid fell 8-2.
Popovic impressed on the day, earning the Hawk's lone singles win. He took the #1 singles match against Chris Hirano by identical 6-1 scores. Both Caicedo and Del Cid fell 6-2, 6-2 at #3 and #5 singles respectively. Molina was out-played by RJ Novak at #2 singles, 6-2, 6-0 while Pazmino suffered the same fate at #4, 6-1, 6-4. Singh was unable to overcome John Guettlein at #6 singles, losing 6-3, 6-1.
