In the span of their last 12 contests, the Hawks have recorded six shutouts and are out-scoring their opponents by an astounding 114 to 18 margin. They boost their overall record out to 21-9 and sit atop the CUNYAC standings with a perfect 20-0 record.
Game 1 (Hunter-12Â | Baruch-4)
Nicole Bowe,
Paige Witalec,
Leah Dillon and Kayle Pilotti each recorded two-hit games as the Hawks lit up Baruch for 12 hits. Bowe had a single, double, two RBI and two runs scored while Dillon had a single, triple and three runs scored. Another notable performance came from
Samantha Marsala who went 1-3 with a run scored and three RBI.
T'ea Panagakos went the full six innings and allowed four earned runs on four hits while striking out three to earn her eighth victory in the circle.
Baruch jumped out to an early lead after putting up two runs in the bottom of the first inning. The score would hold until the Hawks stepped up to the plate in the top of the fourth. The Hawks had bases loaded with two out when
Olivia Woodruff and Pilotti hit back-to-back singles to knot the score at 2-2.
Jessica Fowler was hit by a pitch to drive in the go-ahead run, but the Purple and Gold were not done yet. A Baruch fielding miscue, followed by a two-RBI double from Bowe made it 6-2. When all was said and done, Hunter put up seven runs in the inning.
They were able to tack on an additional run in the fifth and scored four more in the sixth on three hits and one Baruch error, making it a 12-2 affair. Baruch was able to put two more runs on the board but it was not enough as the Hawks secured the first game victory.
Game 2 (Hunter-7 | Baruch-5)
Bowe had a three-hit day where she scored twice while
Olivia Palumbo went 2-3 with two runs scored. Of the five who registered multiple-hit days, Witalec was one of them and also had three RBI to compliment her stat lines. Panagakos made the start and went two innings, giving up just two earned runs on four hits. Dillon came in for releif and closed out the final five innings with two earned runs on seven hits and struck out two.
In the first frame, both the Hawks and the Bearcats traded two runs apiece and then had one-hit innings in the second. In the top of the third, Hunter loaded the bases with one out. Back-to-back singles from Marsala and Woodruff tacked on two to the scoreboard. An RBI sac fly from Pilotti and single from Fowler made it a 6-2 ballgame.Â
Baruch chipped away at the deficit and added a run in the bottom of the fifth, but Hunter responded with another run of their own in the sixth to keep the margin to four. The Bearcats threatened in the bottom of the seventh when Quint hit a two-RBI triple to right field. She attempted to go home on the blast but
Sarah Schor fired the ball into Fowler at the cutoff, who finished the relay down to Marsala at home to get Quint for the second out and prevent another run from scoring. Dillon got Campanelli to foul out to end the game.
The softball team will close out the regular season on Tuesday, May 3 when they take on Violets of NYU. The double header will be at Randall's Island and begin at 3pm.
