Hunter Soccer beats York 4-1 in CUNYAC opener

College Point, NY- In the CUNYAC opener for the season the Hunter Hawks traveled to take on CUNYAC foe York College on Wednesday 9/28/2022.  The Hawks returned to the upper east side with a 4-1 victory, improving to 4-5 overall, and 1-0 in the CUNYAC.  This was Head Coach Dan Cinelli's first victory in the CUNYAC on the 4 year level.

After an early scare at the 5 minute mark when York had a shot go wide, 3 minutes later at 8:44 senior Blaise Enama scored his first of two goals after he caused a turnover in the backfield and beat the goalie to an open goal.  With the Hawks up 1-0 and maintaining possession the pressure led to a corner kick, and at 20:54 Freshman center midfielder Juan Mejia-Montero scored his first collegiate goal.  His corner ball service deflected off of York to double the Hawks lead, 2-0.

Just 5 minutes later the current CUNYAC Player of the Week Blaise Enama scored his second of the game and 8th on the year when he received a feed in the box from Freshman Alpha Barry.  The freshman defender was able to put the ball on Enama's foot leading him to the goal.  Just before half time at 43:48 Hunter buried their 4th goal of the game when Ahmed Abukar scored his first of the year off of a cross in the box coming from Musa Feseru.

York scored the lone goal in the second half when Stanley Sanchez beat Senior Keeper Anthony Simos on a PK in the 74th minute.  Hunter returns to action on Saturday 10/1 in their CUNYAC home opener when they host Brooklyn College at Randall's Island Field 70 for a 12:30pm Kick off.
