New York, NY - The Hunter women's basketball team defeated the Lehman Lightning 70-54 in CUNYAC play. All 9 players scored for the Hawks, as they improved to 10-9 on the season and 5-3 in CUNYAC conference play.
In a back and forth start to the game, Hunter eventually took a 9-2 lead, Lehman responded with a 10-2 run to take a 12-11 lead in the first quarter. The Hawks got back to back baskets from Freshman
Alexa Charles to close out the Half to take a 15-12 lead., one they would never give back. Charles led the Hawks with a team high 21 points, on 8-14 shooting, along with 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. In the second quarter Hunter clicked on the offensive end shooting 60% from the field and going 3-5 from 3, to open up a lead of 17. Sophomore
Erin Cosio hit back to back triples and freshman
Makkedah Murray knocked down a baseline jump shot to close out the half, giving Hunter their largest lead of the first half.
The second half continued as the first ended with Cosio opening up the scoring by knocking down another 3. Hunter pushed the lead out to as many as 25 when freshman
Kennedy DeRuy knocked john a jump shot with 1:24 to go in the 3rd. Senior
Kimberly Lau chipped in with 14 points, going 2-4 from 3, and 5-10 overall. The Hawks were led by Senior
Nia Chung and her 16 rebounds, and 6 steals to go along with 4 points and 4 assists. The hawks had 23 assists on 28 field goals, and forced 27 turnovers. Sophomore Briana Barnes led the Lightning with a game high 28 points.
Hunter returns to action when they travel to the west side to take on CUNYAC conference foe John Jay on Saturday with tip off at 1pm.
