New York, NY - The Hunter College Women's Basketball team dropped a conference road game to John Jay on Saturday afternoon. The visiting Hawks were not able to overcome an early lead and ended up dropping the game 78-64.
The Hawks had three players in double figures with
Alexa Charles and
Kimberly Lau leading the way with 16 points a piece. Senior
Nia Chung continued her strong play with a double double grabing 11 rebounds and chipping in 10 points. The Hawks were able to force 27 turnovers and grab 13 offensive rebounds but it was not enough to overcome John Jay.
The first quarter was a back and forth opening period with John Jay racing out to a 14-3 lead before the Hawks went on a 12-1 run knotting the game up at 15 with a three pointer from
Erin Cosio. John Jay closed out the quarter on a 5 point run to take a 20-15 lead they would never relinquish. In the second quarter a cold streak of shooting put the Hawks down 22 at half time. Coming out of half time the Hawks gave up a basket to go down by 24, the largest lead of the game, and then Hunter went on two separate double digit runs to get the lead down to 6 at the end of the quarter when Eliah Yode sank a free throw to close the quarter out 66-60. The fourth quarter was dominated by defense on both sides as Hunter was not able to connect on their shots allowing John Jay to add to the 6 point lead and build it out to the final lead of 14.
Hunter returns to action on Tuesday when they travel to Medgar Evers to a conference match up in Brooklyn, the game is scheduled to be tipped off at 6pm.
