New York, N.Y.- The Hunter College men's basketball team garnered its second straight win as they traveled to John Jay on Saturday afternoon where they overcame the Bloodhounds, 112-94 in overtime.
Hunter (7-12, 4-5 CUNYAC) started off hot with an 19-4 lead but the Bloodhounds were able to slow down their offense and come back within one heading into the intermission. The two teams felt more evenly matched from the start of the second half as a back-and-forth battle ensued. John Jay was eventually able to separate itself, leading by as much as nine at one point but Hunter's fast pace play proved to be too much and a three from
Jack Meyers to tie the game up at 64, the first of three in the final seven minutes of play.
Down seven with just one minute to play,
Jared Brown stole the ball, dishing it off tho
Ryan Lau who sank a three. Lau was then fouled on the following play as he netted both of his free throws to put the Hawks within two. With nine seconds on the clock, Lau again came in clutch with a layup to send the game into overtime.
The Hawks dominated in overtime, outscoring the Bloodhounds 20-12, led by
Jeremy Montrose who netted seven points in those five minutes alone as Hunter won 112-94.
Lau led the team with 22 total points, shooting 4-7 from three and grabbing five rebounds. Montrose followed with a total of 21 points and three steals.
Hunter continues play on the road against Medgar-Evers for another conference matchup on Tuesday evening.
