Men's Wins Third Straight Against Medgar-Evers

New York, N.Y.- In another thrilling over time battle, the Hunter College men's basketball team defeated Medgar-Evers, 128-123, to grab the team's third straight win and improve to 5-5 in CUNYAC.

Seven players scored in double figures for Hunter College, as the Hawks were led by the fantastic effort of Luka Jakic. The junior scored a team-high 23 points (9-11 FT) to go along with a team-high 18 rebounds. He also led all players with three blocks, with two steals and two assists. Jared Brown scored 16 points, collected five steals, dished four assists, and snatched three rebounds, and Casey Meyers nailed five three-pointers to finish with 15 points. Enzo Caceres-Roussel added 14 points, while Cormac Reilly netted 13. Jeremy Montrose scored 11 points and snatched five rebounds, and Jack Meyers narrowly missed a double-double, scoring 10 points while snatching nine rebounds.

Medgar-Evers senior, Mousa Sinera, grabbed 43 rebounds in the loss to set a new NCAA Division III singe-game record. His performance also put him over the 1,000 rebound career threshold.

In a thrilling first half, the Hawks led by as much as six (53-47) after coming back from a 10 point deficiet. Hunter led 60-59 in the closing seconds of the half before Meyers connected on a bucket to give the Hawks a 62-59 lead heading into the intermission.

Despite leading for much of the second period, a Cougar 11-0 run put Medgar-Evers within reach as they tied the game at 112-112 with just four seconds remaining. Unable to capitalize on its final possession, the two teams headed to OT.

Medgar-Evers started off the extra period strong, taking a 119-112 with 3:37 left on the clock. The Hawks continued to push the pace and exploded for a 7-0 run while Montose sunk a three with just over a minute to go to put the Hawks up by one, a lead they would build on to ourscore the Cougars 6-2 for the remainder of play and take home the win 128-123.

The Hawks return to the court on Thursday Feb. 2 as they visit rival, Baruch at 8:00 p.m.
