New York, N.Y.- Hunter College hosted Farmingdale State in its first game of the Hunter Tip-Off Tournament on Friday evening. The Hawks (1-2) fell 65-80 to the 2-1 Rams.
The first quarter saw Farmingdale taking an early lead on a 9-0 run. The Hawks responded with a three-pointer from
Katie Burke, but Rams maintained control, ending the quarter 20-15. Hunter was unable to catch up in the second period as the two teams entered half time with a score of 39-26 in favor of Farmingdale.The third period saw
Alexa Charles and
Erin Cosio led Hunter's efforts, making three-pointers and driving plays, despite being able to overcome their opponent and would end the game in a 65-80 deficit.
Despite the loss, the Hawks were able to force 18 turnovers which they converted for 18 points, one ahead of the Rams. The team also outscored Farmingdale in fast break points with 16 compared to the Rams' 12.
Alexa Charles led the team, netting 19 points while grabbing three steals.
Erin Cosio also logged double-digit points for the Hawks with eight rebounds in addition to five assists. In addition,
Makkedah Murray also recorded double-digits off the bench with 11 on top of six rebounds and three steals, leading the Hawks' bench efforts which toppled the Rams' bench 22-12.
The Hawks continue the tournament tomorrow against Saint. Joseph's College.
