Williamsport, Pa.- The Hunter College women's basketball team dropped at 62-55 decision to Misericordia in the Hoops for Hound tournament hosted by Lycoming College.
Misericordia (6-4) started off the game hot, outscoring the Hawks (4-7) 23-11 in the first quarter, but Hunter responded in the second period with a dominating 21 points, with
Alexa Charles contributing an impressive 11, while holding their opponent to nine to even the score at 32-32 heading into half time. The two teams were evenly matched in the third quarter as the final period of play started at an even 46-46. Misericordia took the lead to start off the quarter, going up by as much as eight until a three from
Kennedy DeRuy followed by a steal converted to two points by Charles put Hunter within three. Despite a valiant effort, Hunter was unable to take the lead again and ultimately fell 62-55.
Despite the loss, Charles had an outstanding individual performance, leading all scorers with 27 points. She was efficient from the field, shooting 59.1%, and contributed a double-double with 11 rebounds.
Katie Burke provided support with eight points and two assists while grabbing two steals.
Erin Cosio added six while dishing out four assists and three steals.
Misericordia outshot the Hawks 39.3% to 36.9% from the field but the Hawks topped their opponent with a 36.8% beyond the arc, compared the Misericordia's 32.1%. The Hawks were outrebounded 40-33 but showcased their dominating speed with 17 fast break points compared to their opponent's six.
Hunter continues the Hoops for Hound tournament tomorrow as they face off against Lycoming at 2:00 p.m.
