Hawks Edged Out by Lycoming, 71-61

Williamsport, Pa.- The Hunter College women's basketball team fell to Lycoming College, 73-61, in a nonconference competition in the second day of the Hoops for Hounds tournament.

The Hawks (4-8) set the tone in the first quarter  for an evenly contested game, with Lycoming (8-3) holding a slim 21-16 lead. 

As the game progressed, Lycoming extended their lead, heading into halftime with a 42-26 advantage. The third quarter witnessed a spirited comeback attempt from Hunter, outscoring Lycoming 19-12. Erin Cosio and Eliah Yode combined efforts to trim the deficit, but Lycoming maintained control with a 54-45 lead.

Despite Hunter's fourth-quarter efforts, Lycoming held on to secure the victory. The final quarter featured competitive three-point shooting, with both teams showcasing their long-range abilities.

Charles led all scorers with 23 total points and 17 rebounds. Cosio added nine points of her as she grabbed seven rebounds. Katie Burke followed with three baskets from beyond the arc for the night.

Hunter exhibited strong defense, with seven total steals, including three from Charles and a pair from Cosio, and the team totaled seven, which they converted for 11 point off rebounds. 

The Hawks continue thier season with a slate of conference games, starting at Medgar Evers on Tuesday Jan. 3 at 6:00 p.m.
