Hunter Suffers OT Loss to New Paltz, 76-71

New York, N,Y.- The Hunter College men's basketball team suffered a non-conference loss in overtime against SUNY New Paltz at home on Saturday afternoon in the Sportsplex. The 76-71 decision pushed the Hawks to 2-7 while New Paltz moves to 8-1.

The visitor's put took the lead early on and held it for the entirety of the first half as Hunter headed into the break trailing 38-22. The Hawks came out hot to start the second half with a 9-0 run, trimming New Paltz's lead to seven by two minutes in.

The visitor's held onto the lead until the 13-minute mark as William Brown hit a 3-pointer to tie the score at 46 before the Hawks officially overtaking the lead with a bucket in the paint by Jeremy Montrose two minutes later. The score was tied five more times down the stretch,  including in the final minute to send the two teams into overtime as Hunter outscored New Paltz 42-26 dominating the second half of play. 

The visitor's came out fast for the overtime period, as they grabbed a lead with 3:48 left on the clock, despite a layup by Casey Meyers to put the Hawks within one with less than a minute remaining, Hunter would not be able to surmount the visiting Hawks as the game came to a close.

Kareem McDonald led the Hawks with 22 points. Casey Meyers added 14 followed by Brown off the bench with 13. Luka Jakic also logged double-digits in addition to grabbing 13 rebounds for the double-double.

The Hawks return to the court on Dec. 11th against Albertus Magnus at home. Tip-off is slated for 6 p.m.
