Brooklyn, NY - The Hunter College Men's Volleyball team opened up their 2023 season traveling to #13 NYU, dropping a 3-1 decision (14-25, 13-25, 25-22, 22-25). Hunter fought back for a 3rd set win, and battled to the very end in the 4th set.
Junior
Cooper Moran paced the Hawks with 27 assists and chipped in 8 digs on the back line. Hunter was led by two freshman with
Matissee Lee-Maarek who had 8 kills on 17 swings hittign .294n and also 5 blocks.
Sergio Aguado who had a game high 15 digs on the back line. Hunter also had 8 kills from
David Lou, and
Gabe Mendoza.
NYU came out and took the first two sets 25-14 and 25-13, but Hunter responded with a 3rd set win 25-22. In the fourth set Hunter again the Hawks fought all the way back, they were down 19-11 before making a run and bringing the game too 22-20. NYU did not slip up trading points and closing the match out 25-22.
Hunter returns to action when the host Bard College on Tuesday February 7th in the Sportsplex. First serve is set for 7pm
