Women's Basketball Edges York, 70-63

Jamaica, N.Y.- The Hunter College women's basketball team traveled to York College for a conference game in which they overcame their host, 70-63.

The win advances the Hawks to 13-11 overall and 8-5 in conference while the Cardinals drop to 11-10 at (7-6 CUNYAC). Hunter took the lead early on but an 11-2 run pushed the home team ahead to 17-11 by the end of the first quarter. The Purple and Gold fought back and with six minutes left in the half, Erin Cosio hit a three to put the Hawks ahead for the first time since the fifth minute of play. The two teams were evenly matched, as the score tied two more times before the intermission, but the Hawks separated themselves with a 37-32 edge heading into the break.

Hunter's took a ten point lead early on in the third quarter, after a steal by Nia Chung which she dished off to Kimberly Lau for a layup. Despite coming within two on multiple occasions, the Hawks were too much for the Cardinals and secured the win with a seven point advantage.

Chung led the Hawks with 19 points, seven rebounds and four steals in addition to a trio of blocks. She was followed by Alexa Charles who added 17 points with six rebounds and six steals. Cosio shot 3-9 from deep contributing 15 points in the win plus a pair of steals.

Overall, Hunter shot 38.6% from the field and 25.9% from three, just ahead of York's 37.7% overall and 21.7% from three. Despite being out-rebounded 35-30, the Hawks forced 29 turnovers with 14 steals.

The Hawks return to the court for their final game of the regular season on Tues. February 14th as they host CCNY at 5:00 p.m.
