New York, N.Y.- The Hunter College men's volleyball team opened up conference play at home on Thursday evening, where they swept John Jay, 3-0. Hunter took the straight sets victory 25-21, 25-23 and 25-19. 7 Hawks registered a kill, and Hunter had more Kills (35) Blocks (11) and assists (34).
Cooper Moran continued to direct the offense leading the Hawks with 28 assists on the night to go along with 2 block assist, 3 kills and 5 digs. The reigning CUNYAC Conference player of the week
Matisse Lee-Maarek led Hunter with 9 kills on 15 swings, hitting 333. On defense he was just as effective with a solo block, and 6 block assists. Fellow freshman
Sergio Aguado picked up the back line defense with 9 of the Hawks 30 digs.
Jose Mendoza had 6 kills in two sets, along with
Ted Kim adding another 4 in those two sets.
David Lou and
Jimmy Chang each had 5 kills in their 3 sets of play.
Hunter returnes to action when they travel up to Springfield College on Saturday February 18th for a tri-match, first taking on St. Joseph's Long Island at 1pm, and then the hosts Springfield at 3pm.
