New York, NY - The Hunter College Hawks improved to 7-5 overall and win their third straight with a 3-0 win over Bard College on Friday night at the Sportsplex.
The hawks were led by
Andrew Estiverne with 8 kills hitting .636, he also picked up 2 aces.
Matisse Lee-Maarek continued his impressive campaign with 6 kills, hitting .625 and picking up 3 blocks.
Ted Kim provided the offense from the outside with 6 kills, 2 aces and a block also, And junior Setter
Cooper Moran ran the offense with 12 assist, while also picking up a team high 6 digs. As a whole the team had 27 kills, with 22 digs 8 blocks and 7 aces, it led them to a 25-13, 25-10, 25-18 win over the raptors.
In game 1 up 2-1
Matisse Lee-Maarek had a kill booked ended by a kill from
Andrew Estiverne which wrapped up a 6-0 run by the Hawks to go up 8-2. Training points back and forth, with Hunter now up 19-10 the Hawks went on a mini 4-0 run with a kill by
Gabe Mendoza, followed by a Mendoza ace, a kill by Lee-Maarek and by Kim put game 1 out of reach.
In Game 2 tied 2-2 Hunter went on a 5-0 run highlighted by kills from Kim and
Cooper Moran. Up 19-8 the Hawks went on to score 5 straigh around some strong defense and another ace and kill by Mendoza, wrapping up game 2.
Game 3 was a back and forth tilt for much of the game, with neither team taking a larger than 3 point lead. up 19-16 the Hawks took a series of 2-1 points until they finished the match with a block from Rayond Yu and Lee-Maarek that ended game three 25-18.
Up next Hunter will host CUNYAC rival Baruch College in a rematch of the championship game from last year. The game is scheduled for Tuesday March 14th, first serve at 6:30pm. Please come and join us to #Packtheplex
