New York, N.Y.- The Hunter College men's volleyball team defeated cross-town rival, Baruch in their "Pack the Plex" game at home on Tuesday evening, 3-1.
The win continues the Hawks' undefeated conference season as they are pushed to 8-5 overall and 5-0 in CUNYAC, while the Bearcats fall to 8-9 overall and 4-1 in conference.
The Hawks took the first set 25-23 but Baruch was able to even the score with a 25-18 win in the second. Hunter hit for .316 in the third and .359 in the fourth set to take the final two (25-22, 25-18) and win the first of these teams two regular season meetings.
Cooper Moran paced the Hawks with 47 assists, in addition to six digs while freshman stand-out
Matisse Lee-Maarek led all players with 18 kills. He also tacked on a pair of blocks.
Andrew Estiverne and
Ted Kim chipped in with 11 and 10 kills respectively. Kim also led all players with four services aces on the night.
Sergio Aguado had a game-high 21 digs while
Hunter Moran added nine of his own. Â
Despite the Bearcats hitting .325 compared to the Hawks' .318, Hunter recorded 62 kills and 53 digs in the victory, compared to Baruch's 54 and 43.
The Hawks return to the court on Thursday March 16th as they travel to Brooklyn College for another CUNYAC match at 6:00 p.m.
