Brooklyn, N.Y.- The Hunter College men's volleyball team won its fifth straight match on Thursday evening with a victory over Brooklyn College (25-12, 25-10, 25-18).
The win puts the Hawks at 9-5 overall and 6-0 in CUNYAC while the Bulldogs fall to 5-11 overall and 1-6 in conference.
The Hawks jumped out to a 9-1 lead to start the match, which kept the Bulldogs playing catchup the rest of the first set. Hunter opened the second set on a 4-0 run before Brooklyn cut the lead to 8-4 following back-to-back Hunter errors. Already leading 12-7, the the Purple and Gold rallied for ten straight scores to take a commanding lead and eventually close out the second set. Brooklyn didn't go away in the third set, jumping out to a 3-0 lead including consecutive kills. Hunter responded with a 7-1 run to take the lead for good and close out the match 3-0.
Ted Kim and
Jose Mendoza led the Hawks with 11 kills each, followed by
Andrew Estiverne who added nine. Mendoza also added a trio of aces, the most of the night.
Cooper Moran paced the Hawks with 35 assists, while
Nick Yao had a game-high 13 digs, followed by six a piece from
Sergio Aguado and Kim.
The Hawks return to the court on March 18th as they travel to Jonh Jay and look to remain undefeated in confernce. First serve is slated for 11:00 am.
