Softball Drops Non-Conference Doubleheader to Farmingdale

Farmingdale, N.Y.- The Hunter College women's softball team dropped a pair of non-conference games against Farmingdale State College on Tuesday afternoon. The Hawks lost a last minute walk-off, 3-2 in the first game before dropping game two, 6-1 as Hunter fell to 7-15 overall and Farmingdale improved to 7-8.

The Rams scored in the first and fifth innings to take a 2-0 advantage over Hunter in game one. In the seventh inning, Kayla Pilotta singled to first to get on base, followed by Sophia Perez who reached on a bunt to put two runners on base. Down to their final out in the top of the seventh inning, Paige Witalec hit a two-run double down the right field line to knot the score at 2-2 for the Hawks as she scored Perez and Pilotti. Despite the final inning tie, the Rams held on, as a double combined with an error by the Hawks gave the home team a 3-2 advantage to take game one. Leah Dillion pitched for 6.1 innings, facing 28 batters and striking out two as she drops to 4-4 for the season.

In game two, the Rams took an early 2-0 advantage in the second game as two scored on a fielder's choice in the first before Farmingdale State scored on an error in the third. Hunter got on the board with an RBI double by Sophia Perez in the top of the sixth, scoring Kierra Shaw to cut their deficit to one, 2-1. The Rams were too much for the Hawks as they responded with four runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 6-1 lead and ultimately the game.

The Hawks return to the diamond on Thursday April 13 as they travel to William Paterson for another non-conference doubleheader at 3:00 p.m.
