Softball Falls In DH at William Paterson

Wayne, N.J.- The Hunter College women's softball team fell in a non-conference double-header at William Paterson University this evening as the Hawks dropped to 7-18 overall.

The Pioneers (19-5-1) took the first game 7-1. The Hawks started action with a single from Paige Witalec but were unable to bring her home. In the bottom of the first, Wiliam Paterson got on the board, going up 3-0. The second inning saw hits from Leah Dillon, Kayla Pilotti, and Kierra Shaw but all three were left on base. The Pioneers added an addition three runs in the bottom of the inning, heading into the third with a 6-0 edge. Shaw added another hit in the top of the fifth, as she reached on a bunt and advanced due to fielding errors from the home team. Witalec would reach base again capitalzing on the Pioneers' error as Shaw crossed the plate to put Hunter on the board. The Pioneers added one more run to solidify a 1-7 loss in game one for Hunter. T'ea Pangakos (1-9) pitched for two innings, facing 15 batters, she was replaced by Leah Dillon followed by Alyssa Curiale who struck out a batter each.

Hunter dropped a 14-1 decision in the second game of the series. Sophia Perez started off the game with a single and would put Hunter on the board as Olivia Pulumbo grounded out to second for the RBI. WP answered with a single run at the bottom of the inning but the game would remain tied until the bottom of the third when the Pioneers added nine. The home team added four more in the sixth to round out scoring for the day. Adriana Ramirez and Kierra Shaw also logged hits in game two. On the defensive side, Brianna Musco had six put outs at first base, while Leah Dillon and Olivia Palumbo added two each. Leah Dillion pitched for faced 20 batters (4-5), before Alyssa Curiale relieved her and faced 10 batters of her own.

The Hawks return to the field for a conference double-header at John Jay, on Saturday April 15th.
