New York, NY - The Hunter College Women's Volleyball team secured their first two CUNYAC wins of the season and improved to 4-1 overall. Hunter achieved a 3-1 victory over CCNY and a 3-0 win against Brooklyn when they hosted a CUNYAC tri-match.
In game #1, Hunter faced CCNY in a four-set match that concluded with the Hawks winning 25-13, 21-25, 25-12, and 25-9. The team received contributions from various players. Junior transfer Tessa Winkleman had a significant impact, totaling 8 kills to lead the way for Hunter. Tionna Moss and Izabella Williams continued their stellar play with 7 and 6 kills, respectively. Williams also had 5 blocks, leading the Hawks in this category. The offense was orchestrated by Kiara Abreu, who provided 18 assists and led Hunter with 4 aces. Erin Dugan patrolled the backline, accumulating 20 digs during the match.
As a team, Hunter registered 36 kills, 9 blocks, 45 digs, and 10 aces. So far this season, the Hawks have outperformed their opponents in both kills and digs in all 5 matches.
In game #2, the Hawks defeated Brooklyn 3-0, with scores of 25-19, 25-18, and 29-27. Izabella Williams continued to lead Hunter with 12 kills, 3 blocks, and 3 aces, contributing to all facets of the match. Tessa Winkleman recorded 7 kills, 3 aces, and a team-high 18 digs. Bethany Tomaneng distributed 30 assists, aiding Hunter in achieving a total of 36 kills. The Hawks also secured 13 aces and 56 digs, leading both teams in these categories.
Hunter starts the young season with a 4-1 overall record and a 2-0 record in CUNYAC play. They will travel to St. Joseph's Long Island on Tuesday, September 12th, with the first serve set for 7 pm.
