Hunter bounces back to win two at the Wilkes tri-match

Hunter improves to 11-2 overall

Wilkes-Barre, PA- Hunter's women's volleyball team got back to their winning ways with two victories at the Wilkes tri-match. In the first match of the day, Hunter took down Marywood 3-0, and then defeated the host, Wilkes, 3-2. Overall, Hunter improved to 11-2, and they will travel to Newark, NJ on Tuesday to take on Rutgers-Newark.

In the first match of the day, Hunter faced Marywood on the neutral site and secured a 3-0 victory. Hunter led in just about every statistical category and played very efficient volleyball. The Hawks had a 44-22 advantage in kills, a 6-4 advantage in blocks, a 43-21 advantage in assists, and a 55-39 advantage in digs. Hunter also hit an impressive .222% as a team, forcing the Pacers to hit .040%.

Tionna Moss led the Hawks with 13 kills, while Tessa Winkleman had 11 kills, a team-high 4 aces, 3 blocks, and 12 digs on the back line. Pearl Mensah had a team-high 5 blocks, and Libero Erin Dugan picked up 10 digs. Bethany Tomaneng was directing the offense once again and had 34 assists, to go along with 9 digs, keeping the Hunter offense and defense in top form. Hunter was able to take a nail-biting first set with a 29-27 win, and secured a 2-0 lead winning 25-21. In set 3, they started to really click and took the match 25-12.

In the second match of the day, Hunter went back and forth with Wilkes in a thrilling 5-set match. Hunter took the victory 22-25, 25-13, 19-25, 25-20, 15-4. Hunter had some huge individual efforts to win this match. Tessa Winkleman set the tone with 21 kills in the match. In the middle, Lilly Mattison and Pearl Mensah combined for 16 kills, with 9 and 7 respectively. Mattison also led the Hawks with 6 aces, and Mensah had a game-high 7 blocks. Sophomore setter Bethany Tomaneng picked up another 40-piece set with a game-high 41 assists, and also picked up 11 digs. Libero Erin Dugan had 19 digs to lead all players. Hunter hit .232 as a team, once again showcasing a balanced match leading on offense and defense.

Hunter looks forward to another big 3-game week, traveling to Rutgers-Newark and NYU.
