Newark, NJ- The Hawks took a road trip to New Jersey to take on Rutgers-Newark. Hunter went into 4 sets with the Scarlet Raiders, defeating them to advance to 12-2. The first match was a close one but Hunter kept the lead for a final score of 25-21. The Lady Hawks dropped the 2nd match 19-25. Hunter would come back to conquer the Scarlet Raiders in the next 2 sets, winning 25-15 and 25-21.

Tessa Winkleman dominated the nets with 17 kills on the day. Simone McIntyre (12 kills) and Tionna Moss (8 kills) also had huge contributions to the team win. Over the 3 sets, Kiara Abreu had 25 assists, Bethany Tomaneng had 14 assists, and Erin Hyman had 3 assists. Simone McIntyre (11 digs), Kiara Abreu (9 digs), and Desiree Morales (8 digs), all prevented the Scarlet Raiders from kills and extra points. Simone McIntyre had 5 service aces and Pearl Mensah had 3 blocks. Â

In game 1, the Hawks had 39 swings with a successful 13 kills, hitting .128. The Scarlet Raiders struck first, but Hunter responded quickly regaining the lead and maintaining it for the rest of the match. In game 2, Rutgers-Newark went up 6-0 before the Hawks scored their 1st point. The Scarlet Raiders took the 2nd game from the Hawks 19-25. The Hawks improved in the 3rd and 4th sets, hitting .156 and .282 with 11 and 17 kills. In game 3, the Hawks struck 1st, keeping the lead over Rutgers-Newak to win by 10 points. In game 4, the points fluctuated back and forth between both teams until it was all tied up at 14. Hunter pressed their foot on the gas and took the lead maintaining it by 4 the rest of the match.

The Hawks defeated the Scarlet Raiders 3-1 in the matchup last night. Hunter will be on the road this weekend at NYU for a tri-match against NYU and Endicott College at 11am and 1:30 pm this Saturday, September 30th.
