Brooklyn, N.Y.- The Hunter College men's basketball team fell on the road to Brooklyn College, 60-54, on Wednesday evening.
Brooklyn (2-13, 2-2 CUNYAC) jumped out to an early 9-0 lead the start off the game. The Hawks (5-10, 2-2 CUNYAC) were able to fight back and come within four heading into half time trailing 29-25. Hunter came back with renewed energy, going on a 5-0 run in the first two minutes of the second half to take its first lead of the game at 30-29. With 16 minutes left in play, the Bulldogs had established a four point lead at 36-32 but once again, the Hawks responded with an impressive 9-0 run to regain the lead at 41-36 at the 12 minute mark. Hunter continued to impress, going up by as much as seven in the second half, as the Purple and Gold took at 48-41 lead with less than nine minutes left in regulation.
Brooklyn responded with a run of their own as the game was tied at 52-52 with 3:03 left on the clock. Hunter was contained to two points for the remainder of the game while the Bulldogs capitalized and were able to take the game, 60-54.
Kareem McDonald and Rylan Lau led the Hawks with 13 points each. McDonald added a pair of steals and five rebounds and five assists.
Jack Meyers also recorded double-digits with 10 points while grabbing six rebounds. Luke Jakic was a force on the boards grabbing 16, in addition to his eight points and two blocks.
Hunter shot 33.3% overall and 23.1% from three, compared to Brooklyn's 34.4 from the field and 31.6% from beyond the arc.
The Hawks return to the court on Jan. 12 as they host CCNY for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off.
