New York, N.Y.- The Hunter College women's basketball team showcased a dominating win over conference opponent, CCNY, at home on Friday evening. The 72-34 win pushes the Hawks to 2-3 in conference (6-10 overall) while the Beavers remain winless ad 0-4 in CUNYAC and 1-10 overall.
From the opening tip-off, Hunter College established control, outscoring CCNY 22-7 in the first quarter. The lead continued to grow throughout the game, with Hunter maintaining a substantial advantage in every period.
The game's momentum was firmly in the Hawk's favor throughout, with no lead changes and Hunter maintaining a comfortable advantage. Points in the paint (44) and fast-break opportunities (23) contributed to the Purple and Gold's success. CCNY faced challenges throughout the game, struggling with their shooting percentages and turnovers, as they grabbed a mere 26 rebounds compared to the Hawk's 58. The Beavers managed to shoot only 20% from the field and 7.1% beyond the arc. CCNY's offensive struggles were particularly evident in the second and fourth quarters, where they scored just 7 and 12 points, respectively. Hunter displayed efficiency, shooting 40.3% from the field and 78.9% from the free-throw line.
Alexa Charles led all players in scoring and she notched 20 points while grabbing 11 rebounds for another double-double performance. She also grabbed six steals, significantly contributing to the team's 14 total steals. Nina Hennessey also grabbed a season-high three steals to aid in the Hawks' 26 points off of turnovers. Eliah Yode also recorded a double-double, as she scored 12 points while grabbing 10 rebounds, nine of which were offensive. Cosio was logged double-digit points once again, netting 11 for th Purple and Gold.
Hunter continues its season on Jan. 17 as they travel to Lehman for another conference game at 7:00 p.m.
