New York, N.Y.- The Hunter College women's tennis team fell short in a closely contested match against conference opponent Baruch, at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center on Wednesday afternoon. With the 5-4 loss, the Hawks dropped to 2-4 overall and and 2-1 with their first City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) loss in league matches, while the Bearcats improved to 6-1 (2-0 CUNYAC).
Despite the narrow loss,Â
Julia Aksamentova was a standout in singles, securing a strong victory over Maria Calvo with a decisive score of 7-5, 6-3.
Sree Kolla also displayed remarkable tenacity, battling back to clinch her match 2-6, 6-1, 10-7.
Summer Nietubicz added to Hunter's successes with a commanding win, defeating her opponent 6-1, 6-0. The duo of
Sara Contreras and
Ava Cooper shined in doubles, securing an 8-2 victory, highlighting their teamwork.Â
The Hawks return to the court with another CUNYAC match on Oct. 5 as they host Brooklyn College at 12:00 p.m.
