New York, N.Y.- The Hunter College men's soccer team fell short in a close match against Brooklyn, 2-1, at Randall's Island on Saturday afternoon.
Despite the loss,Hunter (2-8-1, 0-2 CUNYAC) showcased strong efforts from several players, with forward
Saleel Eldin standing out. Eldin scored Hunter's only goal at the 25th minute, bringing the game level after an unfortunate early own goal by the team.
Hunter displayed a tenacious defense throughout, with goalkeeper Matthew Heimowitz making an impressive six saves. Defender Abdullah Al Maghrabi contributed with a shot on goal, though he was later sent off with a red card in the 71st minute, which added pressure to Hunter's already challenging task. Musa Feseru and Christian Rodriguez also attempted shots, with Feseru utilizing his impressive speed, forcing a save from Brooklyn's goalkeeper.
Despite a total of nine shots, six of which were on target, Hunter couldn't find the net again after Eldin's equalizer. The match saw its fair share of physical play, with multiple cards on each team and 19 fouls overall.
This loss brings Hunter's record to 2-7-1, and while they couldn't secure a victory, their determination and individual highlights, particularly from Eldin and Heimowitz, were notable in a competitive matchup. The Hawks continue to show improvement as a team and look to secure their first conference win when the squad returns to the field on Oct. 9 at York for a 3:00 p.m. kick off.
