Hawks Dominate York Cardinals in Commanding 9-0 Victory

Jamaica, N.Y.- The Hunter College women's tennis team (4-4, 4-1 CUNYAC) put on a stellar display on Tuesday afternoon, cruising past  York  with a decisive 9-0 win at York College Courts. The match saw the Hawks showcase their depth and dominance, especially in the singles matches, where they didn't drop a set.

In doubles action, the top Hunter pairing of Anna Chapko and Julia Aksamentova set the tone early, dismantling York's top duo 8-1. The second and third pairs—Sara Contreras and Ava Cooper, and Samantha Moser with Olivia Salsgubaite—echoed the same message, winning 8-0 and 8-1, respectively, to give Hunter a commanding 3-0 lead heading into singles play.

The Hawks kept their foot on the gas in singles, starting with Anna Chapko at No. 1, who posted a dominant 6-0, 6-0 win, leaving no room for her opponent to settle into the match. Sara Contreras followed up with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 2 singles, while Julia Aksamentova secured her win 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 3 spot.

Summer Nietubicz, Hannah Butterworth, and Samantha Soued rounded out the singles lineup, each sweeping their matches in straight sets, with Soued also notching a flawless 6-0, 6-0 result at No. 6. Butterworth, facing some early resistance, sealed her match 6-2, 6-1, demonstrating resilience and closing ability.

With this victory, Hunter improves to 4-1 in conference play, inching closer to the top of the CUNYAC standings. The Hawks will look to carry this momentum forward as they prepare for their next matchup at Sarah Lawrence on Oct. 12.
