Hunter Named Tip-off Tournament Champions with 71-57 Win Over UMass Boston

New York, N.Y.- The Hunter College women's basketball team grabbed its second win of the weekend  securing the championship of the annual Hunter Tip-Off Tournament. With the 71-57 victory over UMass Boston, the Hawks moved 3-2 on the season, while UMass Boston dropped to 1-4.

Kennedy DeRuy and Alexa Charles earned all-tournament honors for their performances over the weekend.

Charles led the charge with another commanding double-double this afternoon, pouring in 25 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. Her ability to dominate inside and contribute on defense with four steals and three blocks underscored her all-around brilliance. DeRuy added 13 points, including two critical three-pointers in the second half that snatched momentum away from UMass Boston. Her clutch shooting was instrumental in quelling a potential comeback and keeping the Hawks firmly in control.

Gianna Henriques was a force in the paint, delivering 15 points on 5-of-6 shooting and pulling down seven rebounds. She also went a perfect 5-5 from the charity stripe roudning out her best all around performance in the Hawks' uniform. Katie Burke chipped in with nine points, knocking down three triples and dishing out four assists to fuel Hunter's offense.

Hunter's defense proved strong, limiting UMass Boston to 31.7% shooting from the field. The Hawks also capitalized on their free-throw opportunities, going 14-of-15 from the line, a sharp 93.3% conversion rate. Their efficiency and teamwork were pivotal in the second half as they turned a close game into a decisive victory.

The Purple and Gold return to the court on Nov. 26 as they travel to Hoboken, N.J. to take on Stevens Tech for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off.
