Hunter Competes at the Nassau Open

Hempstead, N.Y.- The Hunter College wrestling team showcased its talent at the Nassau Open, competing against athletes from 13 teams across Divisions I, II, III, and JUCO. Several Hawks delivered standout performances in a challenging field.

Freshman Jayden Medina (149 pounds) led the way for Hunter, finishing fourth and earning 18.5 team points. Medina recorded victories over Nathan Eife (Camden County) by fall at 2:06, Shane Hatfield (Fairmont State) by technical fall, 17-0, and Sean Romanski (Albany) by major decision, 15-1, in the consolation semifinals. Medina fell to Division I opponents in the semifinals and third-place match.

Sophomore Botensky Bauzile (133 pounds) finished sixth, contributing 12.5 points. Bauzile opened with a first-round pin over Miguel Delgado (Springfield Technical) and added wins via technical fall over Eric Turzo (Stony Brook) and by fall over Josue Hernandez (unattached). Bauzile's tournament included two close losses to Nathan Pelesky (Fairmont State), including in the fifth-place match.

Freshman Jack Kent (157 pounds) also finished sixth, scoring six team points. After falling in the quarterfinals, Kent rebounded with wins over Kenaje Demosthene (Nassau) by decision, 10-4, and Ramsey Heilbron (unattached) by major decision, 9-0. Kent ended his tournament with a loss in the fifth-place match.

Other notable performances for Hunter included:

  • Mikey Douglas (125 pounds): Earned a decision victory over Alex Starace (Albany).
  • Justin Riello (149 pounds): Scored two falls, pinning Jeffrey Steinert (RPI) in 1:06 and Richard Ray (Nassau) in 1:00.
  • Martin Palomeque (157 pounds): Secured a 14-9 decision over Arcangelo Losee (RPI) and pinned Trace Taber (unattached) in 6:19.
  • Nick D'Erasmo (165 pounds): Earned a 7-1 decision over Ali Zebian (Springfield Technical).

The Hawks resume their season on Dec. 14 as they host York College of Pennsylvania and Shenandoah University in the Sportsplex.
