New York, N.Y.- The Hunter College men's basketball team fell to Baruch in the Battle of Lexington at the ARC Arena on Thursday evening, 98-70. The loss drops Hunter to 7-4 in league play (10-12 overall), while Baruch advances to 10-1 in CUNYAC play and 14-8 overall.
The game started out in a point exchange, with three ties in the first five minutes of play but by the halfway mark, Baruch had established a nine point lead that they continued to build upon leading at 48-26 by the end of the first half. Hunter tried to rally in the second half, as they scored 44 points, not far behind the Bearcats' 50 points, but they were unable to overcome the opening half lead and eventually fell in the CUNYAC matchup.
Despite the loss, the Hawks managed to force 15 turnovers which they converted for 16 points, compared to Baruch's seven for four points.
Kareem McDonald led Hunter with 15 points, followed by
Luka Jakic with 12.
Gene Propper also recorded double-digit points with 10 in addition to a pair of steals.
Casey Meyers and Jakic led the team with eight rebounds each.
The Hawks look to bounce back on Feb. 7 as they travel to CCNY for a conference game at 7:00 p.m.
