New York, N.Y.- In a high-stakes matchup at the Nat Holman Gymnasium, the Hunter Hawks faced off against the CCNY Beavers in an intense contest that saw the home team secure a hard-fought victory. Despite a valiant effort from the Hawks, they fell short, succumbing to the Beavers with a final score of 69-77.
From the outset, CCNY asserted their dominance, taking control of the game early in the first half and maintaining their lead throughout. Hunter struggled to find their rhythm in the opening period, with CCNY's aggressive defense limiting their scoring opportunities. The Hawks trailed by a significant margin at halftime, with the score standing at 23-39 in favor of the Beavers.
However, the second half saw a determined comeback effort from Hunter as they battled to close the gap. Led by standout performances from Corey Jones Jr. and Jack Meyers, the Hawks staged a spirited rally, outscoring CCNY 46-38 in the final period. Jones Jr. showcased his scoring prowess, finishing the game with 19 points, including three three-pointers, while Meyers contributed 14 points and six rebounds.
Despite their best efforts, Hunter was unable to overcome CCNY and fell 77-69.  With this result, Hunter's record moves to 10-13 overall and 7-5 in conference play, while CCNY improves to 16-7 overall and 9-3 in conference play.Â
