Patchogue, N.Y.- The Hunter College men's volleyball team traveled to Saint Joseph's Long Island on Saturday afternoon for a non-conference match. The Hawks fell 3-1 (15-25,16-25, 25-18, 22-25), dropping to 2-6 overall, while the Golden Eagles moved to 3-4.
The game kicked off with St. Joseph's setting the tone early, dominating the first set with a score of 25-15. Their strong offensive performance continued into the second set, as they secured another victory with a score of 25-16, putting up 2-0 against the Hawks.
However, Hunter refused to back down. Displaying resilience and determination, they fought back fiercely in the third set. With a renewed energy, Hunter turned the tide, claiming the set with a score of 25-18 and keeping their hopes alive.
Yet, the Golden Eagles maintained their composure, unleashing a relentless assault in the fourth set. Despite the Hawks' best efforts, St. Joseph's proved too strong, ultimately securing the set and the match with a score of 25-22.
Individually, Muhammad Al-Amine Mbaye led the charge for Hunter, delivering a stellar performance with 12 kills and eight digs. Kyle Foley also added 12 kills, while Matisse Lee-Maarek recorded eight. Lee-Maarek and Annes Deljanin added four blocks each while Nick Yao led with nine digs.
The Hawks return to the court on Tuesday Feb. 27 as they resume conference play at CCNY. First serve is slated for 7:00 p.m.
