Alexa Charles Named Women's Division II/III Player of the Week

New York, N.Y.- Alexa Charles of the Hunter College women's basketball team has been named Divisions II/III Women's Player of the Week by the Met Basketball Writers Association.
 
The designation, for games played Jan. 29-Feb. 4, is unique in that it encompasses players from 48 Met area schools across Divisions II and III.

This was the first MBWA weekly career laurel for Charles.

A 5-7 sophomore guard from Tarrytown, NY, Charles --- who also was named the CUNY Athletic Conference player of the week --- averaged a double-double of 24.5 points and 13.0 rebounds, along with 4.5 assists and 3.0 steals, in helping the fourth-place Hawks defeat league-leading Brooklyn 55-49 at home on Tuesday and then edge third-place Baruch 69-63 Thursday on the road.
 
Overall in the two games, Charles canned 54.5% (18-of-33) of her shots from the field.
 
She recorded 23 points, 15 rebounds, four steals and three assists against Brooklyn.
 
Charles posted 26 points, 11 rebounds, six assists, two blocks and two steals in the win over Baruch.
 
Averaging a double-double for the season, Charles is currently No.3 nationally in Division III in scoring with 25.0 ppg and 33rd in rebounding with 11.2 ppg.
