New York, N.Y.- The Hunter College men's basketball team hosted Lehman College in a CUNYAC clash at the Hunter Sportsplex on Friday evening, as they honored six seniors prior to the start of the game..Despite a spirited effort from the Hawks, they fell short against the Lightning, with the final scoreline reading 69-77 in favor of Lehman.
Hunter has six student-athletes graduating this season in Luka Jakic, Ryan Lau, Corey Jones Jr., Donovan Cola, Jack Meyers, and William Brown.
From the get-go, the game was intense, with both teams exchanging blows in a fast-paced first half. However, Lehman (16-8, 11-2 CUNYAC) managed to gain a significant advantage, heading into halftime with a 47-34 lead over the Hawks (10-14, 7-6 CUNYAC).
Throughout the game, the Hawks fought hard to claw their way back into contention. Led by standout performances from J. Meyers and Jones Jr., who contributed 21 and 14 points respectively, Hunter displayed resilience and determination.
J. Meyers was a force to be reckoned with, showcasing his scoring prowess with an impressive display from beyond the arc, hitting four of his seven attempts. Meanwhile, Jones Jr. provided crucial support, knocking down key shots to keep the Hawks within striking distance.
Jakic also made his presence felt on both ends of the floor, contributing seven points and making his presence felt with his defensive prowess, tallying five blocks.
Despite their best efforts, the Hawks ultimately couldn't overcome Lehman's offensive firepower, as the Lightning managed to maintain their lead and secure the victory.
Hunter returns to the court in the final game of the regular season as they travel to York on Tuesday Feb. 13 for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off.
