Hunter Secures Fourth Straight Win With 3-0 Sweep Over York

New York, N.Y.- The Hunter College men's volleyball team secured its fourth straight win with a 3-0 home victory over York on Thursday evening. With the win, the Hawks advance to 9-1 in CUNYAC play and 11-8 overall, while the Cardinals dropped to 1-13 with a 1-9 record in league competition. 

The Hawks got off to a hot start from the opening set, securing at 25-14 win after stalling York's offense with a 9-1 run to close out set no. 1. The second set mirrored the first, with ten point victory for the Purple and Gold after jumping out to an astounding 16-3 lead leaving no room for the Cardinals to mount comeback. The final set of the match Hunter's offense continued its relentless rhythm while capitalizing on York's errors to secure a 25-12 win to close out the match in straight sets. 

Muhammad Al-Amine Mbaye led the offense for the Hawks with seven kills and six services aces in addition to a trio of digs. Demetri Gournelos also had seven kills of his own, in addition to four blocks, the second best of the night behind Onyeka Onaga's five. Jimmy Chang added three digs as well, while Kyle Foley tallied six kills and one ace.

Hunter continues it's season against Lehman as they travel to the Bronx for a 6:00 p.m. match on Thursday March 21.
