Hawks Falter at Ramapo Double Header

Mahwah, N.J.- The Hunter College women's softball team traveled to Ramapo College for a non-conference double header on Tuesday, falling 0-9 and 2-10, as they dropped to 1-5 while the Roadrunners advanced to 11-3.

Game 1
The game began with Ramapo seizing control early, manufacturing runs in each of the first three innings. Hunter's defense struggled to contain the Roadrunners' hitters, conceding crucial hits that put them at a disadvantage from the outset.

Offensively, Hunter's lineup fought hard but couldn't find the breakthrough against the home pitching. Despite solid hits from players like Sophia Perez and Elizabeth Thompson, and a double from Paige Witalec, they were unable to overcome Ramapo's strong performance. Pitcher T`ea Panagakos faced a tough outing, conceding eight runs before Grace Basil took over to close out the game as the Hawks ultimately fell 0-9 in the first game.

Game 2
The second game  kicked off with both teams showcasing strong defensive efforts, keeping the score level early on. However, Ramapo managed to break the deadlock in the second inning, scoring two runs and gaining an early lead.

Hunter responded in the top of the fourth inning, rallying to tie the game at 2-2. Notable contributions came from Sophia Perez, who singled to drive in a run, and Samantha Marsala, who added an RBI single of her own.

Despite their efforts to stay in the game, Hunter faced a tough challenge from Ramapo's potent offense. Ramapo surged ahead in the bottom of the fourth inning, scoring five runs and building a commanding lead that Hunter couldn't overcome.

Pitcher Alyssa Curiale battled through a challenging outing, facing tough hitters from Ramapo. Despite her efforts, Hunter's defense struggled to contain Ramapo's offense, resulting in a 2-10 loss.

Hunter continues its season on May 29 with its home opener against College of Mount Saint Vincent, first pitch is slated for 3:00 p.m. on Randall's Island.
