Jamaica, N.Y.- The Hunter College men's volleyball team shutout conference opponent York, 3-0, on the road on Tuesday evening. The win marks the Hawks' fourth straight, as they remain undefeated in CUNYAC play at 4-0 (6-6 overall), and are yet to lose a set in league competition, while the Cardinals remain winless (0-9, 0-5 CUNYAC).
Hunter's offensive prowess was on full display, led by Muhammad Al-Amine Mbaye, who showcased his hitting skills with 7 kills, while Matisse Lee-Maarek and Kyle Foley contributed 5 kills each. Setting the stage for their teammates' success was Brandon Yeh, who delivered 22 assists.
Defensively, the Hawks were equally formidable, with Jon Pflueger leading the charge with 3 blocks, followed closely by Onyeka Onaga and Matisse Lee-Maarek with 1 block each. The backline was anchored by Admir Cekic and Kyle Foley, who combined for eight digs, ensuring that very few balls hit the ground uncontested.
The first set saw Hunter take control early on, leading to a commanding 25-17 victory. The second set followed a similar pattern, with Hunter maintaining their momentum and executing their game plan flawlessly. Despite York's efforts to mount a comeback, they couldn't contain the relentless onslaught from the Hunter offense. With precise serves and well-timed blocks, Hunter clinched the second set with a convincing 25-13 scoreline. Entering the third set with a comfortable lead, the Hawks continued to showcase their dominance on the court. With contributions from various players across the roster, including Ted Kim, Cekic, and Pflueger, the Hawks maintained their composure and sealed the victory with a final set score of 25-12.
As the final whistle blew, the Hawks emerged victorious with set scores of 25-17, 25-13, and 25-12, maintaining their perfect conference record.Â
