Hawks Take Hard Fought 6-3 Win Over John Jay

Flushing, N.Y.- The Hunter College men's tennis team continued conference play on Wednesday afternoon as they hoisted a 6-3 win over John Jay at the USTA Billie Jean King Tennis Center. With the win, the Hawks improve to 3-2 in CUNYAC competition (3-6 overall), while the Bloodhounds dropped to 2-3 in league play and 2-8 overall.

After dropping the no. 1 double match, the Hawks battled back to take the next two with Tyler Wood and Sandro Schwyzer pushing for a 8-5 victory in the second slot, followed by the combination of Ralph Go and Ali Elshehawey took the final doubles point with an 8-3 win.

In singles play, Hunter secured four wins, starting with Raymond Leu at no. 2 (6-2, 6-1). Elshehawey, Wood, and Schwyzer took their second wins on the day, in the middle single matches. After a long 7-3 first set, Elshehawey kept working, taking the second set at 6-3 to take the no. 3 singles match for Hunter. At the fourth spot, Wood took a 6-3, 6-4, win before Schwyzer dominated at no.5 (6-2, 6-0), as the Purple and Gold secured the 6-3 victory.
