Hunter Names Amy O'Connor as Senior Woman Administrator

New York, N.Y.- The Hunter Athletics is proud to announce the appointment of Amy O'Connor ATC/L, CSCS, PES, CES, CEAS, as the Senior Woman Administrator (SWA). O'Connor brings a wealth of experience in athletic administration and sports medicine, further strengthening Hunter's commitment to excellence in athletics and student-athlete well-being. 

In this role, she will serve to promote meaningful representation of women in the leadership and management of the department — all while being a role model for female student-athletes and employees. As a London, England's  native, having played, coached, and lived in various countries, Amy brings an important perspective and experience to Hunter's diverse student-athlete body.

O'Connor currently serves as an Assistant Athletic Director, Athletic Trainer for Hunter College, providing comprehensive care for 18 NCAA intercollegiate teams. Her role includes injury evaluation and treatment, rehabilitation programs, and injury prevention strategies. She also manages compliance with NCAA, City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC), and Hunter College regulations, and oversees the Sportsware software system for student-athlete medical records.

Her experience extends beyond Hunter College. O'Connor was previously the Assistant Athletic Director of Compliance at York College, where she ensured adherence to NCAA and conference regulations, in addition to serving as the  Head Athletic Trainer there, providing medical services to 17 NCAA teams and co-authoring COVID Return to Sport Guidelines for the CUNYAC.

Hunter College's Athletic Director, Terry Wansart, a longtime advocate and role model for women in collegiate athletics, expressed confidence in O'Connor's new role, "We are thrilled to have Amy step into this key leadership position. Her dedication, expertise, and deep understanding of both compliance and student-athlete wellness make her the ideal choice to serve as our Senior Woman Administrator. I have no doubt that Amy will continue to have a tremendous impact on the success of our programs and the overall student-athlete experience."

O'Connor holds a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training from Montclair State University and is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Business Management and Leadership from the CUNY School of Professional Studies. She holds numerous certifications, including those from the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), and is a licensed athletic trainer in both New York and New Jersey.

As the SWA, O'Connor will play a crucial role in advancing Hunter College's commitment to gender equity in athletics, supporting student-athletes, and contributing to the strategic vision of the athletics department.
