Hunter Falters in 2-4 Loss at Purchase

Purchase, N.Y.- The Hunter College women's tennis team fell on the road to Purcahse College, 4-2 , bringing their record to 1-3 on the season. Despite the loss, several players showed promise and resilience on the court.

The doubles matches set the tone for the day. The standout performance came from the duo of Sara Contreras and Sara Novo, who decisively secured a 6-3 victory at the #2 doubles position. Their teamwork and strategic play were evident as they executed their shots with precision, establishing a strong presence on the court. On the other hand, the #1 doubles pair of Anna Chapko and Julia Aksamentova faced a tough challenge but battled hard before falling 3-6. The #3 doubles team, Summer Nietubicz and Samantha Moser, fought valiantly but ultimately fell 4-6. Despite the loss, their determination and aggressive play style kept the match competitive.

In singles play, the Hawks displayed a mix of determination and skill. Novo had a remarkable day, winning her match convincingly 6-0, 6-1 at the #3 singles position. 

Chapko showed resilience in her #1 singles match, competing fiercely before the match went unfinished with a score of 5-7, 6-0 against her opponent. Although the match was cut short, Chapko's comeback in the second set illustrated her fighting spirit.

Aksamentova had a tough battle in the #4 singles, ultimately falling in a closely contested match with scores of 4-6, 6-3, 1-6. Her ability to bounce back in the second set showcased her tenacity, even as she faced a challenging opponent.

On the lower end of the lineup, Nietubicz and  Moser faced tough matches at the #5 and #6 positions, respectively. Nietubicz put forth strong efforts but fell 4-6, 4-6, while Moser also fought hard but ultimately lost 3-6, 4-6.

The Hawks look to bounce back as they continue conference play on Sept. 25. as they travel to Lehman for a 3:30 p.m. first serve.
