New York, N.Y.- The Hunter College women's volleyball team (8-4, 2-0 CUNYAC) continued their conference winning streak with a commanding 3-0 sweep over CCNY on Tuesday night on the road. The Hawks displayed their offensive depth and defensive prowess, taking the sets 25-14, 25-11, and 25-20 in front of a lively home crowd.
Leading the way for Hunter was Vera Montalbano, who delivered nine kills on 17 attempts, hitting an efficient .353. Her consistent offensive contributions helped the Hawks control the pace, particularly in the second set when Hunter hit .278 as a team. Lily Mattison also had a standout performance, posting seven kills, three service aces, and five total blocks, contributing 10.5 points for the night. Mattison's presence at the net kept CCNY from gaining any momentum, especially during critical moments.
Setter, Xheni Doci, was integral in orchestrating Hunter's attack, dishing out 22 assists while also adding three kills of her own on five attempts for a .600 hitting percentage. Desiree Morales also make an inmpact defensively, racking up 13 digs to keep CCNY's offense in check.
Rounding out the team effort, Amina Moummad added five kills and six digs. Hunter's defensive play was rock-solid, as the Hawks recorded 62 digs in total, neutralizing CCNY's offensive threats.
Despite a closer third set that saw CCNY push back with eight lead changes and 10 tie scores, Hunter's resilience shined through as they closed out the match 25-20 to secure the sweep.
The Hawks continue their season on Friday, as they spend the weekend on the road at the Cougar Clash in Dallas, Pa.
