BOX SCORE Jersey City, N.J.- The Hunter College men's soccer team fought to a hard-earned 0-0 draw against New Jersey City University on Wednesday afternoon, with standout defensive performances across the board.
Despite being outshot 16-6, Hunter's defense and goalkeepers held their ground, delivering their second shutout of the season.
Matthew Heimowitz started in goal for Hunter, making a key save in the first half, before Max Tsigalnitsky took over in the second, recording four crucial saves, including several late stops to preserve the clean sheet. Their combined efforts ensured Hunter stayed in the match despite consistent pressure from NJCUs attack.
Saleel Eldin was the most active for Hunter offensively, recording both of the team's shots on goal. He came close to breaking the deadlock in the 60th minute with a shot on target, but it was saved by the opposing goalkeeper. Leonardo Kaplan also registered a pair of shots, contributing to Hunter's second-half push.
In defense, Conor Sullivan, Christian Rodriguez, and Robin Sebastian played the full 90 minutes, anchoring a backline that successfully repelled numerous attacks and kept New Jersey City from capitalizing on their chances.
Hunter's resilience, particularly on defense, was evident as they weathered five corner kicks and 12 fouls without conceding a goal.
The Hawks continue their season on Saturday Sept. 28 as they host Pratt in a nonconference match on Randall's Island Field 10. Kick-off is slated for 2:00 p.m.
