New York, N.Y.- The Hunter College men's basketball team battled hard but fell just short in an overtime thriller against John Jay College, 87-83, in a CUNYAC conference matchup at the Doghouse on Saturday afternoon. The Hawks (3-11, 1-2 CUNYAC) showcased resilience and standout performances despite the loss.
Jack Meyers led the way for Hunter, delivering a stellar 26-point performance while shooting 9-for-22 from the field and a perfect 5-for-5 from the free-throw line. He also added six rebounds and two steals in 44 minutes of play. Donovon Cola was also a standout, as he  contributed 17 points, eight rebounds, and three blocks, continuing his reliable presence on both ends of the court.
Casey Meyers added 14 points and eight rebounds while draining three key three-pointers. Enzo Caceres-Roussel dished out nine assists to go along with his 10 points, while Gene Propper provided a spark off the bench, knocking down three triples and finishing with nine points and seven rebounds.
Hunter's offense showed efficiency, shooting 42.4% from the field and 40.7% from beyond the arc. The Hawks also converted 16 of their 21 free-throw attempts (76.2%). However, turnovers and second-chance points proved costly, as John Jay (10-4, 3-0 CUNYAC) capitalized on Hunter's 17 turnovers to score 19 points.
After trailing 41-35 at halftime, the Hawks mounted a strong second-half comeback, outscoring John Jay 40-34 to force overtime. J. Meyers' three-pointer with 1:32 left in the extra period brought Hunter within one point at 82-81, but late free throws and clutch baskets by John Jay sealed the game.
Hunter will look to bounce back as they continue their CUNYAC schedule on January 15 as they host Brooklyn College in the Sportsplex at 7:00 p.m.
