Hawks Outlasted by Brooklyn in 2OT Thriller

BOX SCORE New Yor, N.Y.- The Hunter College men's basketball battled fiercely but ultimately fell short in double overtime against Brooklyn College, 78-74, on Wednesday evening in the Sportsplex.

The game began with a back-and-forth first half as neither team could gain much separation. Jack Meyers led the charge for the Hawks (3-12, 1-3 CUNYAC), scoring early and often, including a trio of first-half three-pointers. Donovon Cola also contributed with key buckets in the paint, keeping the Hawks within striking distance. Despite Hunter's effort, Brooklyn (5-9, 1-3 CUNYAC) took a slim 27-26 lead into halftime.

In the second half, Hunter found its rhythm. Casey Meyers fueled the offense with precise passing and timely scoring, while Jayden Jarret asserted himself on the glass, pulling down crucial rebounds to keep possessions alive. Midway through the period, Cola's layup and a pair of C. Meyers free throws gave Hunter a brief lead, but Brooklyn responded with a quick scoring run to reclaim control.

As the minutes ticked down, the Hawks mounted a furious rally. J. Meyers drilled a clutch three-pointer, followed by a layup from Enzo Caceres-Roussel to tie the game in the final moments. With time running out, Hunter's defense held firm, forcing the Bulldogs into a tough shot at the buzzer and sending the game into overtime tied at 61.

In the first overtime, the Hawks seemed poised to complete the comeback. J. Meyers once again came up big, hitting another three-pointer to put Hunter ahead. Brooklyn answered back, however, and a late free throw from Jarret tied the score once again, extending the game to a second overtime at 68-68.

The second overtime began with Hunter gaining momentum after a layup from Stephon McGill and a defensive stand. But Brooklyn capitalized on Hunter's missed opportunities at the free-throw line, regaining the lead with under a minute to play. Despite a final push that included a three-pointer from Caceres-Roussel, Brooklyn iced the game at the line, outscoring the Hawks 10-6 in the final period to escape with the win.

Despite the loss, Hunter's balanced attack and diverse team of talent made a statement. Jack Meyers finished with a team-high 22 points, including five three-pointers, and added nine rebounds and two steals. Casey Meyers contributed 14 points and seven assists, while Donovon Cola added 12 points and seven rebounds. Jayden Jarret posted a team-high 10 rebounds and eight points, in addition to Caceres-Roussel, who chipped in with seven points and seven assists.

The Hawks continue conference play on Jan. 17 as they travel to CCNY for a 7:00 p.m. tip.
