Hawks Remain Undefeated in Conference; Defeat John Jay 69-50

New York, N.Y.- The Hunter College women's basketball team maintained its undefeated record in CUNYAC play with a commanding 69-50 victory over John Jay on Saturday at The Doghouse.

The Hawks (8-4, 3-0 CUNYAC) set the tone early, outscoring the Bloodhounds (3-11, 1-2 CUNYAC) 22-7 in the first quarter and never relinquishing their lead. Junior Alexa Charles delivered an outstanding performance, tallying a double-double with a game-high 26 points and 19 rebounds. Charles also contributed six free throws on eight attempts and added a block and a steal.

Gianna Henriques played a pivotal role in the paint, scoring 12 points on 6-of-10 shooting and grabbing eight rebounds, including seven on defense. She also registered four blocks and three assists, showcasing her all-around impact.

Hunter's perimeter shooting was spearheaded by Katie Burke, who knocked down one three-pointer en route to her eight-point contribution. Erin Cosio added two three-pointers, finishing with six points and energizing the team in key moments.

Kimberly Lau provided a spark off the bench, scoring 11 points on 3-of-4 shooting, including one from beyond the ac. She was perfect from the free-throw line, going 4-for-4, and chipped in with four rebounds.

Defensively, Eliah Yode stood out with eight rebounds and two steals, disrupting John Jay's rhythm throughout the game. The Hawks forced 19 turnovers, converting those opportunities into 19 points.

While John Jay managed to outscore Hunter in the second quarter, the Hawks' defensive intensity in the third period limited the Bloodhounds to just nine points. Hunter capped off the game with a strong 20-point final quarter, securing the decisive victory.

With this win, Hunter willl look to extend their dominance as they face their next CUNYAC opponent at home on Jan. 15, as they host Brooklyn College at 5:00 p.m.
